H1N1 “SWINE” FLU
Guidelines for RSU 67 District School staff and parents
The following contains information and a checklist of procedures that will be followed by school personnel when confronted with a case of the H1N1 virus.
Each school is taking prescribed precautions to help prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus. Classroom learning situations will continue for optimal learning. The virus is spread through the air (airborne). Each school room has been provided with hand cleansers. All rooms are being sanitized daily. There is no need for parents to send in hand sanitizers or wipes with their children. However, if students arrive with these items, we ask that they check with the school office first as the items may cause allergic reactions for fellow students or staff members. Approved unscented hand sanitizers are the clear liquids, GERM-X AND PURELL.
- Students who exhibit symptoms of fever (100 degrees or above), sore throat, cough, runny nose, body aches, vomiting, or diarrhea will be sent home pending notification to parent/guardian or asked to be kept home if parent calls with this information.
- Staff members exhibiting similar symptoms should remain home. Refer to parent letter sent home on November 2.
- It is the parent’s option to keep their student home if concerned with contacting the H1N1 virus at school. Parent should check with their physician for advice.
- Students or staff with the virus can return to school once they are fever free for 24 hours without taking fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
- Students at home will be provided school work on Tuesdays and Fridays, and can drop off the completed assignments the same days. Arrangements should be made with your child’s school for pick up and drop off times.
- Schools will remain open until further notice. If it is found necessary to close a school as a result of too few students or staff, an announcement will be made with the local news media (radio and television networks). It will also be announce on the school district web site and the individual affected school web site. After school activities will be determined on a day by day basis.
