Service Learning

"Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

DEFINITION: Service learning is a teaching and learning methodology that connects classroom curriculum with identified community issues and needs. Service learning engages students in projects that serve the community and build their social and academic capacities.

MISSION: Service learning will strengthen the classroom instruction of our learners in all subject areas to improve their overall academic success, and will fulfill real needs in the community. Through their participation in curriculum-driven projects, learners will be exposed to new concepts and will develop a stronger sense of social responsibility and civic awareness.

GOALS: Service learning as an educational strategy is designed to enhance social and academic learning while developing character and citizenship skills.
