Dear Friends of Mattanawcook Academy,
Welcome to Mattanawcook Academy’s web page. Mattanawcook Academy is the four year comprehensive public high school serving the communities of Chester, Lincoln and Mattawamkeag that make-up Regional School Unit Number 67. We also have students attending Mattanawcook Academy from several towns outside of the district. They come from the neighboring towns of Burlington, Kingman, Lee, Mattamiscontis, Macwahoc, Maxfield, Molunkus, Lowell, Passadumkeag, Springfield, West Enfield and Woodville. Having students tuition into our school speaks highly of the educational experience provided by our teachers, coaches and support staff. Of the graduating class of 2023, over seventy percent went on to higher education.

To insure that our mission is met we offer a curriculum that is rigorous, relevant and future focused. Instruction is learner-centered, provides opportunity for voice and choice, and is guided by dedicated and passionate staff.

Learners can round out their academic experiences by participating in one of fifteen varsity sports as well as opportunities to participate in music, art, drama, leadership clubs, honor societies and other activities.

To make learning come alive faculty seek out and take advantage of field trips, guest speakers and special programs. One of our core beliefs is “(learners) learn in different ways, in different settings and at different rates for different futures”. To honor that we offer courses at various levels to meet the needs of individual learners. Learners can participate in Northern Penobscot Tech Region III Vocational Program, Maine Community College dual-enrollment, Advanced Placement, Academ-e, Early College for ME, PLATO (online courses) and Mattanawcook Academy Alternative Education programs.

The use of technology abounds at Mattanawcook Academy with all learners having their own Chromebooks for use at school and at home. Teachers communicate regularly with learners on coursework through the use of technology making the term “anytime learning” a reality.

Mattanawcook Academy has a long standing tradition of offering a solid well-rounded educational experience for all learners, and I am proud to be part of that tradition. Learners taking advantage of what we have to offer leave here prepared to enter college, military or the workforce, whatever they choose to do, to lead productive and happy lives.
