I am currently working on a livestream feed for today's boys soccer game vs Penquis(9-28-20). Once I have a link I will make it public. You will be able to find the link on the MA athletic page. Thanks for your patience.

The MA soccer teams will begin competition on Monday, as the boys will play Penquis here at MA. The game will begin at 4:30. The girls will play their first game at Penquis on Tuesday, that game will begin at 4:00. Due to the 100 limit gatherings for outdoor contests fans will be unable to attend either of those contests. All home contests will be live streamed throughout the fall, the link will be shared on the MA Athletic Facebook page.

Spectators attending fall athletic events continue to be a topic of conversation across the state. The RSU 67 board of directors have made the decision that there will be no in person spectators allowed at MA games this fall. What we are in the process of sorting out is whether or not spectators will be allowed to watch games from their vehicle. We are currently waiting for additional direction from the DOE regarding this matter. A final decision will be made once that information is provided to our district.

The MA fall practice/game schedule has been uploaded to MA the athletic webpage. Just a reminder that there will be no fans allowed at any away soccer events this fall. It is unfortunate but necessary due to the 100 person restriction at outdoor athletic events. Schools will be working on providing live stream options at these events. I will provide that information when it becomes availabl.

The MA fall practice/game schedule has been provided on the MA athletic Page. Just a reminder that away fans will not be allowed to attend soccer games this fall. All league teams have made this decision based on the 100 person limit placed on all outdoor athletic events this fall. Thanks for your patience as we attempt to navigate through these difficult times. Schools are planning on live streaming events, once I get that information I will provide the details on the MA athletic page.

In lieu of a fall parent meeting I have created a slide show that will describe the measures we have taken to provide athletics for our student athletes this fall. Your son or daughter will be bringing home an assumption of risk form that will need to be signed by both you and your child. On that form you will see that there is a place for you to denote that you have watched the slideshow and read the student athletic handbook. Please see below that I have attached links for both the handbook and slideshow below. The MPA will release fall sport guidelines on Wednesday, September 9th. Once we receive the guidelines the determination will be made as to what sports will be offered. This entire process has been exhausting for schools, entire communities and more importantly athletes. We certainly hope that we will be allowed to field some teams this fall. I will be sure to post the findings after the information is brought forward. Once again, thanks for your patience!

RSU 67 Fall Sports Update The safety of all individuals involved in interscholastic athletics (student-athletes, coaches, athletic training staff, game day personnel, spectators) is the number one priority as RSU 67 considers the resumption of education-based interscholastic activities. The district’s administration team will continue to support all initiatives identified for mitigating the risks associated with COVID-19 and make decisions accordingly. The RSU 67 administrative team will utilize guidance from the following groups regarding how to most safely conduct education-based sport programs: 1. Office of the Governor of Maine 2. Maine Department of Education 3. Maine Center for Disease Control 4. Maine Principals’ Association 5. Penobscot Valley Conference principals 6. Penobscot Valley Conference superintendents of schools 7. Local school administrations 8. Best practices as identified in other states and athletic associations 9. National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Sports Medicine Advisory Committee As many of you know the MPA has set September 8, 2020 as the date that school districts can officially begin fall athletics. As much as I would like to say that we have received the Ok to proceed, I cannot . We currently await the approval of the new guidelines that the MPA set last week. The DOE and CDC are currently reviewing those guidelines. I have been told that a decision is likely to be made before the week is over. Once they have been reviewed and approved, it will be up to individual districts to decide whether or not they will proceed with athletics. RSU 67 will base its decision on what is best for our athletes and the entire community. I do realize that this is a time sensitive issue, but ask that you remain patient as we sort through what has become a very difficult decision. We realize that the young people need athletics as an outlet and will continue to advocate for a return to play. Thank you all for supporting the young people of our community as we traverse these difficult times. I hope to have some positive news for you soon. Sincerely, Bill McCarthy Athletic Administrator RSU 67
